The Rain In Spain Falls Mostly On The Plain

So there are some things that I have learned about my time in Spain that I feel are worth passing on. These are pretty general observations of things that are pretty much commonly known but surprised the hell out of me.

Mortgages are in the 1 Million Euro range (that's not good folks) and are at minimum 50 year mortgages in most major cities making it near impossible to get, unless you are an double jointed hotel heiress.

The work day starts around 10 a.m., quits for two hours in the afternoon between two and four p.m. and then resumes again at 4 p.m. until 8 or 10 p.m.!!

Lunch is the major meal here often taking the full two hours that I just mentioned. During this time, you may choose to have tapas which are very popular or go to a full service restaurant. Prepare to have up to 6 courses if tapas and 3 courses if a sit down a'la carte. Usually lunch will run you only an amazingly small 12 Euros for you to stuff your fat face sillly.

If you are an American, you can get into pretty much any restaurant in any major metropolitain city in Spain. No, not because of our white rap or Scientologist superstars. Because we all get hungry around 7 p.m. and eat in these places when it's just you, the maitre'd and the cook. Residents don't come out until around 10 p.m. The same works for clubs but in reverse because unless you actually like dancing with yourself, then you'd better be ready to head out at 2 a.m. after you get done eating supper at midnight.

Did I mention that pork is everywhere?

In most of Europe, tips are not expected. If you like your service, tipping is fine but even at fine establishments 1 Euro is gracious.

Health care is free here and tuition at most universities will run you anywhere from 900 to 1200 Euros per year!

We Americans suck down way too much carmel colored cola beverages. Here in Spain, when you order a Coke (there is no other), it comes in something like an orange juice glass. Diet Coke is "Coke Light." ! Best of all, everything comes with lemon with out you even having to ask!
