What the world needs now

This is my reaction to the London bombings.

It isn't anything fancy, and in about two sentences I will probably start rambling off on a tangent, but somewhere in here I try to say my piece. I could just say that it's awful. That would be true. I could say that I'm sad that people died. That would also be true. I felt like saying that I'm mad that the stock market in England faltered in reaction to the bombings. Loss of life isn't ironic or important to terrorists but the collapse of a nation's economy is. But I'm as political as a postage stamp so I can't say those things very well.

What I can say is that we need something to help ease the torrent of uncertainty, fear and pain. I suggest music.
Music soothes the soul and it communicates positive engergy. It's something anyone, including Scientologists, would tell you is needed in the world right now.

I have found my musical parachute. It will come as no surprise that I found it by searching my past, my childhood. You can be Bono and tell the world how to dismantle an atomic bomb, very useful. I tend to go by a kinder, gentler route. I have found comfort from the most unlikely of paths, the Rainbow Connection. I'm a little Kermit on the inside. Always have been. I have always like to think that I identify best with lonely geek muppet Scooter (he's still my favorite), but the more I think about it, the more I realize that I'm Kermit through and through. I react to things like Kermit. I'm the glue at the center of my family like Kermit. I have wide-eyed optimism like Kermit, I ride a bicycle like Kermit...I'm skinny like Kermit.

It might seem hokey or trite, but I dare you to not feel better about the world, yourself or whatever troubles you after singing aloud...in Kermit's voice.

The Rainbow Connection
!
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
!
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
!
Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
!
All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
!
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
!
La la la la la la laLa la la la la la la la
!
Life's like a movie, write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending
We've done just what we set out to do.
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you.

Is the title a reference to Bad Religion's "Faith Alone?" Nice post.
